Aftersaving her from an ignoble fate, Prince So shoves Hae Soo unceremoniously off his horse. She hits the palace where the princes are but is embarrassed that she saw them bathing and hides. Hae Thechoreography and music built an intense backdrop to an assassination attempt. Though I'm not a fan of the pop ballad songs during the romantic scenes, I love the instrumental soundtrack for this show. That song during the last scene of episode 3 was devastatingly gorgeous. Li Ji-Eun My Mister’ and Hyori’s Bed and Breakfast’ popularly known by her stage name IU plays the role of 25-year-old Go Ha-jin who is transported from modern times to the time of Goryeo dynasty. She is in the body of a 16-year-old girl named Hae Soo. Ha-jin finally accepts her new reality and eventually falls in love with the fearsome 4th Prince, Wang So. The dysfunctional royal family uses her as a pawn in the game of politics and power. The life of the man she loves is at stake. She must make a decision to either save or condemn this man’s life. Lee Joon-gi The King and the Clown’, My Girl’ and Iljimae’ stars as the 4th Prince Wang So Emperor Gwangjong, who covers his face with a mask and is given the deprecatory tag of Wolf Dog’. Because of his atrocious history as a royal captive to the Kang family, the character kicks off as a splendid, frigid and reticent man. Society treats him as an outcast which incites his purpose to return to Kaesong and be a part of the family that had initially dismissed him. Although a restrained person, he eventually falls in love with Hae Soo due to her kind demeanor. Kang Ha-Neul Incomplete Life’ and Two Weeks’ stars as the 8th Prince Wang Wook. He is recognized for his benevolent behavior. As he is a prince, his mind is generally preoccupied with worries and is solemnly responsible for running a household, which puts him in a despondent life. In addition to this, his marriage with Lady Hae is not based on love and is rather a political marriage. Hong Jong-hyun Vampire Idol’, Jeon Woo Chi’ and Dating Agency Cyrano’ plays the character of the 3rd Prince Wang Yo, who is portrayed as an extremely power-hungry man, with a sharp mind to understand, learn and devise ideas. Being an ambitious man, he has a keen eye for the throne and does not miss a single opportunity to achieve what he wants. Moon Lovers Scarlet Heart Ryeo Plot What is it about? During the Goryeo era, Hae Soo born into the noble Hae Clan is a cousin of Lady Hae Myung-hee. After the death of her mother, Lady Myung-hee raised her as her own daughter. Days pass, and at one point, Myung-hee becomes ill. They migrate to Songak, where Soo is to look after her and keep her company. Everything goes smoothly, until Soo falls and hits her head in the enormous washing area of Songak and evidently dies for a short while, before Go Ha-jin a 25-year-old woman from the modern times takes over her body after she drowns during a solar eclipse in her time, unbeknownst to anyone else. This sudden change in her personality is noticed by her cousin and the servant. However, surrounding people believe that her personality was only a change brought upon her by hitting her head and nearly dying. As her cousin is married to one of the sons of King Taejo, and because of her relaxed and light-hearted demeanor, she befriends several of the princes in the blink of an eye. Even though she is well versed with the fact that the palace intrigues over the succession to the throne should not concern her, she later finds herself unwittingly trapped in the clash and tussle between the princes at Wang’s House, for the throne. There, she ultimately falls in love with the 4th Prince Wang So, who hides his face behind a mask, making people quiver with fear and hence, is given the tag of dog-wolf’. The drama serves us the peppered blend of emotions, power, and politics as several of the princes fall in love with her and, she on the other hand, in all innocence, becomes a puppet of the maladjusted royal family in the quest for the throne. Cloudflare Ray ID 7d83cf6b6d2c2868 • Your IP • Performance & security by Cloudflare By William Schwartz Published on 2016/08/30 The pacing in "Moon Lovers Scarlet Heart Ryeo" really is top notch. While I still psychologically recognize the obvious discordance between the political powerplay scenes and Soo's vastly more simplistic interpretation of plot, the tones are quite well balanced. We go from one to the other without any real sense of whiplash. Prince So is an uncommunicative jerk with his brothers, and he's also an uncommunicative jerk with Soo. But in both cases Prince So is also the main guy who's all about getting things done even if it means his hands get dirty in the process. AdvertisementOne aspect of the Goryeo royal family here that distinguishes it a lot from the Joseon royal families more commonly seen in Korean dramas is the sheer level of backbiting competition. The royal princes all love each other, yet at the same time they seem to take disproportionate glee when someone else fails. Even assassination attempts don't seem to phase them on a personal level. It's like they're trying to win at a game. This is one way that Soo's apparent role as the center of her own hot man harem feels oddly justified. Soo is just another symbolic goal for all these manly men. They want her because they don't have her. And as is the case with all of the other power struggles, physically dominating Soo is sort of besides the point. Simply being the strongest man in the room isn't good enough. You have to be the smartest one, too. It is through this context that the production team is able to rather fantastically build up the ritual which makes up the climax. What's especially great about this scene is that even without all the political context all the performers extras included are treating this one hundred percent seriously just as people back then would have. The choreography is so excellent and engaging it's a legitimate surprise when the knives come out even though we were practically told explicitly in advance that there was going to be an interruption. Narratively, the ritual also fulfills the important role of bringing Soo into the lives of the royal princes through a more convincing plot device than having her be around at the right place and right time to give a stern lecture. While this, too, is an convenient scriptwriting coincidence, the more permanent implications are quite interesting. How will a woman who wears her heart on her sleeve function in an environment where every personal interaction has multiple layers? I had recently come around to watching period dramas and was recommended that I watch it. And boy was I not disappointed...I wish the same could be said of this second season. Let me begin with the obvious season 2 is set in modern day, so the feel is completely different as are the problems all of the characters face. The beginning started somewhat strong for me. There were flashbacks to season 1 and a few of the characters' reincarnated selves in modern day was a nice touch. story the plot was weak sauce. Nothing we drama fans haven't seen before love triangle, poor girl catching the eye of the rich heirs and deciding who she truly loves. The revenge plots did keep me interested with just how far the characters will go for 'justice' and the truths behind long-kept family secrets. But the doppelganger storyline wasn't needed AT ALL. Plus, after the first few episodes, there isn't a whole lot of interaction between the main couple Zhang Xiao & Yin Zheng until episode 15, and even then the build up felt too rushed. Maybe because I couldn't really get a sense of time passing, or how much time passed from one problem popping up to another being resolved. cast the actors did what they could with the script they were given. And after watching the whole drama I know why more actors from the first season didn't sign on for the 2nd. From episode 1 to the finale the main actress was ALWAYS crying or on the verge of tears. It got to the point that her tears meant nothing to me as a viewer because she cried SOOOO much. music It didn't move me, and it wasn't memorable. But it served its purposed to give dramatic flair when needed. Rewatch Dear God NO! Knowing how it all came together and ended, I'd rather just rewatch the first season and pretend that potential SPOILER ALERT for season 1 Ruoxi chases after 4th Prince in the museum with a smile on her face and a sense of hope. Honestly, had the 1st season ended on that note I wouldn't have bothered with the 2nd. Overall I'm harsh on this BECAUSE the 1st season was so good. In comparison, season 2 is a 5, but as a standalone I'd give it a solid So in fairness, the actual 7 i'm giving this is more than it deserves - Read More Was this review helpful to you?
